What are the Telkom RICA requirements? Like all other mobile network operators in South Africa, Telkom is required to capture the personal details of each user on it’s network. That’s in line with the government’s Regulation of Interception of Communications and Provision of Communication-related Information Act which was passed in 2002. But what documents do you require to be able to register a Telkom SIM card?
Telkom Mobile RICA Documents
The following are the Telkom mobile RICA requirements;
- A South African ID or a passport for foreign nationals.
- Proof of residence. This can be in the form of a Utility bill, an existing lease, a bank statement, a cell-phone or a retail account. These documents should be less than three months old.
What else do you need?
Those are the Telkom RICA requirements. When doing the registration process online, you also need to have a smartphone. You will be required to take clear images of the documents to complete the process. You also need to have a new Telkom SIM card.
That’s the SIM card that you will be registering. You will be required to type in the SIM ICCID number which can be found on the back of your new SIM Pack. For online registrations, your documents should be in PDF, PNG, JPG, JPEG formats. You will also be required to take a selfie as part of the process.
Where else can you RICA you Telkom SIM?
We have already noted that you can RICA your Telkom SIM card online. But where else can you register your SIM? Well, you can also register at the outlet that sold you the SIM. That’s the case for most of the major retailers such as Pick n Pay, Game and HiFi cooperation.
You can also RICA your SIM at a Telkom store near you. In fact, we think it’s easier to register instore than online. During the process of buying your SIM, why not register it as part of the process. There is no need to take it home when the process can be completed as part of the purchase.
