Can I pay half for my DSTV? A lot of people have been leaving us messages asking that question. We recently published an article in which we discussed what happens if you are late in meeting your DSTV subscription payments. We all hit a financial brick wall every now and again. Should that happen to you, making a partial DSTV payment would be the solution. But is that possible?
Can you pay half of your DSTV account?
No, DSTV does not allow you to pay only half of your subscription amount. If you wish to continue receiving their service, you will have to make a full payment.
Why this tends to be unfair
That’s the answer to the question, can I pay half for my DSTV. It cannot be done. But is that fair? We recently published an article in which we talked about how to change your DSTV payment date.
We noted in that post that DSTV payments are done on a pro-rata basis. And DSTV is a prepaid service, meaning you pay ahead of viewing. Being pro-rata essentially means they charge you per day, depending on your chosen bouquet.
So, if you are on the DSTV Compact Plus package which currently costs R519, what it means is that you will be paying about R17 per day. That’s 519 divided by 30.
Based on this, it shouldn’t be too difficult for DSTV to allow it’s users to pay half. Half of R519 would be about R260. But no, DSTV does not allow people to do this. You are required to pay in full if you wish to continue viewing.
What can you do to continue watching DSTV
We have answered the question can I pay half for DSTV? So, if you have a limited amount of money, what do you do? Does it mean you will now be switched off?
The good news is that DSTV does not have only one package. There are multiple packages on the platform. What it means is that you could always go for a lower priced bouquet that’s in line with your money. The cheapest bouquet is DSTV Easyview, which costs only R29. Everyone should be able to afford that.
Of course, you will be losing out on some shows, but it’s better than getting switched off altogether. In truth you can only watch one channel at a time. So, you will get used to your misery after a little while.
