What is the Rain cancellation fee? Do you have to pay a penalty when you cancel your Rain account? You are here probably because you wish to end your relationship with Rain. The company has been growing a lot over the past few years. However, you may have discovered that things are not working as you hoped they would. Perhaps you do not have connectivity in your home or office. Or maybe you are cancelling for another reason. Whatever the case, you will be asking yourself; does Rain have a cancellation fee?
Does Rain have a cancellation fee?
No, Rain does not have a cancellation fee. Remember one of the biggest selling points for South Africa’s data only network is that it has no contracts. Payments are made on a month to month basis. At the end of each billing cycle, your credit card is debited and so on.
The only catch is that Rain cancellations take effect only on your next billing date. They do not have prepaid. The default billing date is the 1st of the month. You also have the option to set your billing data on the 15th or on the 25th of the month.
So, when you cancel your Rain account, the cancellation only happens on your chosen billing date. On that day, you will need to pay a fee for the previous month. So, if your billing date is on the 1st, and you cancel on 13 May, your account will run till 1 June.
On that day, you will be charged an amount for May. Your account will be cancelled and you will be billed for the month of May. We know, it all sounds a bit complicated but it’s not. Rain bills you for the previous month. So, when you cancel, the Rain cancellation amount is the amount for one month.
Why Cancel?
That’s the Rain cancellation fee. But why would anybody cancel their Rain account. We have already given a partial answer to this question.
Maybe you do not have network where you usually need it. Some people have reported dark corners in their workplaces and elsewhere.
Another factor that may have driven you to look up the Rain cancellation fee would be if you have found a better offer somewhere else. Or maybe you can no longer afford the monthly payments.
Summary: Rain cancellation fee
In this article, we discussed the Rain cancellation fee. We noted that Rain does not really have a cancellation penalty because the company does not have contracts.
It’s different from other networks. When you cancel an MTN contract, as an example, you pay a cancellation fee. That’s because most people on these contracts have taken gadgets as part of the deals.
Rain does not yet offer gadgets. So, when you cancel, you are only cancelling the SIM. So, the amount that you pay is no more than the charge for the preceeding month.

This isnt correct. Initially i had to make payment in order to activate and use the data. That being said its obvious clients pay in advance so cancellation should be without a final debit. Rain has poor delivery. Uncapped 4g is listed at upto 10mbs but its mostly at below 1mbs.sometimes as little as 0.10mbs
Thanks Denesh. Yeah, Rain probably gets overwhelmed sometimes
Rain debited from my account after cancelling both my sims in the beginning of Feb, a call centre agent called me to say that I’ll have to make payments end Feb which i paid. Why am i still being debited in the month of March after the sim cards are not in use ?
If I cancel the current order to a different one is this still gonna wait until the billing date set?
